the myth of the rWB Porsche
In the world of classic Porsche tuning is a very controversial topic. Many people tried, many failed. There are few people left daring to modify a Porsche, but there is one name that has established itself over decades: Akira Nakai with RWB Porsche. But who is Akira Nakai and what’s his story ?
Akira Nakai early career
Akira Nakai was born in Chiba, Japan, on October 15, 1970. From a young age, he developed an unwavering passion for cars, constantly immersing himself in automotive culture.
The Japanese tuner began his early career in a Drift-Crew called “Rauh-Welt” where he tested the limits and driving capabilities of a Trueno AE86. Shortly after he discovered a damaged Porsche 930 (911 Turbo) while working in a car body shop and bought it from the original owner in the late 90’s. This would become the very first RWB-Porsche which Akira named after his favorite beer, Stella Artois.
Birth of RWB porsche
The idea of RWB, or “Rauh_welt Begriff” which is the German translation of “Rough World Concept” came from Akira’s early membership of the local Japanese car group called “Rauh-Welt”. This group of the racing and drifting scene in Japan in the 1990s was known for their aggressive, custom car modifications, primarily on drift cars. The term “Rauh-Welt” (Rough World) reflected their gritty hands-on approach to car modifications.
Inspired from the Japanese car culture, Akira became increasingly fascinated with air-cooled Porsche 911 and started modifying them in his signature style. The term “Begriff” (concept or idea) was then added to complete the brands name, symbolizing Nakai’s unique approach to tuning and car design.
